EL AL Cargo Division signed a deal with global logistics giant KUEHNE + NAGEL, in order to operate 150 flights from China to Italy via Israel with cargo related to dealing with the Coronavirus
Over the next few days, EL AL Israel Airlines will commence operating 2 daily cargo flights from China via Israel to Italy. Around 150 of these special cargo flights are to be operated in the coming weeks and months.
EL AL cargo flights to Italy will operate on the return leg from various European countries including England, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
As a result of the agreement, EL AL carried out a project of converting 2 of its Boeing 777 passenger aircraft to fully cargo in order to maximize this option. In addition, EL AL is transporting cargo on the Dreamliner fleet both in the belly and in the upper deck of the aircraft.
At the beginning of the week, a 777 cargo flight was carried out in its new configuration from Shanghai to Tel Aviv, of which the cargo was medical equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to combat COVID-19.
Ronen Shapiro, Director EL AL Cargo Division: “This project enables EL AL to operate regular cargo flights from Europe on a daily basis, including London, Paris, Milan, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Zurich. The Israeli industry and importers are back in business in the context of returning to work in the Israeli economy. ”
